عندما بدأت الثورة المصرية، بدأ فريق من الشباب الليبيين الاستعداد لثورة وشيكة في بلادهم. لذلك قاموا بتشكيل مجموعة شباب ليبيا، وهو فريق من 17 متطوعاً مهمتهم إخبار العالم عما كان يحدث فعلا هناك. قالت هدى منينة، والتي كانت تمثل مجوعة شباب ليبيا في المؤتمر الذي عقدته جامعة فكتوريا في كندا، تحت عنوان: "الإنترنت ووسائل التواصل الإجتماعي والتغيير السياسي في الشرق الأوسط": "لقد أخذنا على عاتقنا دور التوعية حول الأحداث في بلادنا حيث تم قطع الإنترنت ولم يكن الشعب الليبي قادراً على إيصال صوته للعالم".

ظهرت نحو 200 مطبوعة مستقلة في ليبيا منذ سقوط الزعيم المخلوع معمر القذافي ويقول باعة صحف ان الزبائن يغادرون متاجرهم محملين بالصحف حتى يضمنوا الا يفوتهم اي خبر. ويقولون ان هذا مجرد ثمن زهيد يدفعونه من أجل الحرية.
وقال رجب الوحيشي الذي يبيع الصحف منذ عام 1956 "الزبائن يشترون كل الصحف التي يجدونها امامهم ثم يقررون ماذا سيقرأون." وأضاف أن التجارة مزدهرة بفضل تنوع المحتوى وعدد المطبوعات المعروضة للبيع.
وقتل القذافي يوم الخميس خارج سرت مسقط رأسه التي خاض فيها اخر مواجهة ضد مقاتلي المجلس الوطني الانتقالي المدعومين بحلف شمال الاطلسي.

Journalists who had been holed up in the Rixos Hotel are evacuated
Many people are concerned about the safety of the independent journalists Lizzie Phelan, Thierry Meyssan and Mahdi Darius.  Lizzie left the Rixos Hotel yesterday afternoon along with all the other journalists.  They stayed at a different hotel overnight and today will be shipped to Malta.
They were evacuated from the Rixos in a small convoy of marked Red Cross vehicles. #
