I had the opportunity to rise and rise in the House of Commons and present the following petition, which was unanimously adopted:

That this House stand in solidarity with those religious minorities around the world and strongly the condemn the vicious attacks on Egyptian Coptic Christians and their institutions; call on the Egyptian Government to ensure that the perpetrators of the attacks be brought to justice and bear the full weight of the law; and, ask the United Nations Human Rights Commission to conduct an open and transparent investigation into the plight of Egyptian Coptic Christians and issue a public report on its findings.” Also I ask that you join the struggle and sign the petition asking for justice in Egypt for the Copts: http://www.jimkarygiannis.net/coptic_petition
لقد تشرفت بوجودي معكم اليوم ونحن نحاول تسليط الضوء على إضطهاد الأقباط في مصر. لنشارك المتألمين في آلامهم، ونكون صوتاً لمن لا صوت له. ولكل من ضحى بيوم راحته ليتواجد معنا اليوم أقول: أشكركم يا اصدقائي، فلن يصير العالم مكاناً أفضل إلا إذا استمرينا أنا وأنتم على هذا النهج؛ ندافع عما نؤمن به، ونتكلم حين تخفت أصوات الحكمة.
ولكل مسلم ليبرالي يدافع عن حقوق الأقباط داخل مصر، لكم مني تحية. لقد اخترتم الطريق الوعر، عرضتم حياتكم للخطر، وضحيتم براحة عائلاتكم لمجرد أن تدافعوا عن مبادئكم. أنتم مثلنا، ترسلون رسالة بسيطة بكل قوة للعالم - هي إن من حق كل انسان أن يقف شامخاً، بلا خوف في قلبه، وبلا أدنى شك أنه أهل للكرامة الإنسانية كغيره.
أناشدكم بأن تظل قلوبكم مفتوحة، وكلماتكم حية، تعلمون بها سائر المصريين أن المسيحي هو شريك لكم و متساو معكم. أنكم لا يمكن أن تبنوا مصراً جديدة قبل أن تبادروا بمداواة جراح الغير؛ وأن أحلامكم لا يمكن أن تتحقق إلى أن تتوق قلوبكم إلى مجتمع جديد، مجتمع يحيا في مصالحة مع نفسه ومع العالم.

It has been a pleasure standing here, with all of you today, as we attempt to shed the light on the persecution of the Coptic people in Egypt; to share the pain with the afflicted, and to be the voice for the voiceless. To all of you, who sacrificed a day of comfort at home to participate in this rally, I say: Thank you my friends. The world will never be a better place without you and me doing just that; standing up for what’s right, and speaking up when all other wisdom has been silenced.
To all the Liberal Muslims, who continue to stand up for the rights of the Coptic people inside Egypt, I salute you. You have chosen a rough path, jeopardized your personal safety, and compromised your families’ comfort, simply to be able to stand up for what you believe in. You, like us, have a simple but powerful message to the world: that all people deserve to walk tall, without fear in their hearts, assured of their undeniable right to human dignity.
I urge you all to keep your hearts open, and your words alive, to teach other Egyptians that Christians are your equals and partners; that you cannot rebuild a new Egypt, without first healing the wounds of your neighbour; that you cannot realize your dream, until you first aspire to live in a society that is at peace with itself and the world.
