One Year After Arab Spring, the Middle East Needs Christ's Message of Peace

With battles raging in Syria, the Arab Spring is no longer the popular hopeful movement it was a year ago. Just as the popular protests for human rights were spreading from Tunisia to Egypt and across the Middle East last year, I visited a Christian family in the West Bank. Their work illustrates why the presence of Christians is so needed throughout the Middle East even as political winds add uncertainty to the ability of this minority group to thrive. Christians, with their ancient roots in the region, provide a unique and essential message of peace and freedom.

Egyptian Canadians for Democracy will be holding a rally and march on February the 11th against military rule in Egypt. The event will start 12 pm at Dundas Square. Other organizations and groups will be collaborating and joining us, such as the Canadian Peace Alliance. We also plan to have a few speaker representatives from different political parties and organizations. Please read the statement to learn about the history of what is happening now in Egypt, why we are protesting and what our demands are. Another press release will be issued shortly to announce the speakers, the route of the march and detailed schedule of the event. 

Egyptian Canadians for Democracy Statement Regarding Recent Events in Egypt

Toronto, ON (February 6th, 2012)-We strongly condemn the Supreme Council of Armed Forces’ management of the Egyptian government. Since they were granted power by Hosni Mubarak as he was stepping down, they have failed to respect the Egyptian people and their revolution. The people’s demands were not met, the regime has not yet fallen, and the revolution is not yet over.

أعلنت "حركة مينا دانيال"، فى بيان لها اليوم عن تنظيمها مسيرة سلمية تنطلق من أمام مبنى دار القضاء العالى بشارع 26 يوليو، وحتى ميدان طلعت حرب، على أن تبدأ فى الساعة الـ 6 من مساء غد الخميس، وتعتبر المسيرة هى الظهور الأول لحركة مينا دانيال فى الشارع بعد تأسيسها.  وأعلنت الحركة فى بيانها الأول والذى حصلت "اليوم السابع" على نسخة منه رفضها للمحاكمات العسكرية للمدنيين، منددة بإجراءات المجلس العسكرى تجاه الثوار، بعد إدراج اسم مينا دانيال ضمن المتهمين بالتحريض على أحداث ماسبيرو، رغم أنه فارق عالمنا فى أحداث ماسبيرو 9 من أكتوبر.

تقدم اليوم مجموعة من المسلمين والأقباط ببلاغ للنائب العام حمل رقم 10630 بلاغات لسنة 2011، ضد بعض القنوات الإسلامية والمسيحية المتطرفة التى تشعل الفتنة الطائفية، كما تضمن البلاغ اتهاما مباشرا لوزير الإعلام أسامة هيكل ورئيس هيئة الاستثمار ورئيس شركة الأقمار الصناعية، وطالب البلاغ بالتحقيق مع المشكو فى حقهم بشأن السماح بالترخيص لهذه القنوات، التى تبث السموم الطائفية وتسيىء للأديان.
