Vancouver-based HootSuite is the most popular social media management software for the world's top brands, according to a new survey from Pingdom.
The results of the study reveal that nearly 21% of the world's top brands, including eBay, Porsche, and IBM, use HootSuite's social media management dashboard. The company has close to five million users in total.

One question many seem to be wondering about Twitter: is this duck a media or technology company?
In a meeting at The New York Times offices in New York, Dick Costolo, the chief executive officer of Twitter, said that Twitter is some variation of both. “I think of the company as a technology company that is in the media business,” Mr. Costolo told a room full of editors and reporters. “Our business is an advertising business, we don’t sell technology.”

حذّر المفتي العام للمملكة العربية السعودية عبدالعزيز آل الشيخ من موقع التواصل الاجتماعي "تويتر"، معتبراً أن فيه "ترويجاً لأكاذيب باطلة، وفيه من يصدر فتاوى من دون علم، وغير مدعَّمة بالدليل، وأنه يحوي طعناً لشخصيات دينية واجتماعية".

وأشار إلى أن "هذا من أساليب الأعداء في تحريف الكلم عن مواضعه"، مضيفاً أن "تويتر" يمثل دعوة للتراشق بالتهم.

وبحسب صحيفة "الحياة"، قال المفتي، في خطبة الجمعة بجامع الإمام تركي بن عبدالله في الرياض أمس، الجمعة: "إن في هذا الموقع دعوة إلى تراشق التهم بين الناس، وترويج الأكاذيب التي يستعملها البعض لإحداث الشهرة ببروزه فيها، ويتخذها وسيلة للسب والطعن في الناس بغير علم. وهذه أمور خطرة لا يجوز للمسلم الانسياق فيها".

 Twitter has received another request from an organization to ban an account it deems to be “terrorist”.
Although Twitter is staying mum on the issue, the Telegraph has received a copy of a letter from Shurat HaDin, the Israel Law Centre sent to the company.
In the letter, the Centre demands that Twitter block access to the Hezbollah Twitter account, which the Centre points out is classified as a terrorist organization by the United States.

CAIRO — Slowly coming to light in local media and dissected on Twitter by eager followers of Egypt’s electoral process, figures emerged Saturday that offered details of the success of Islamist parties in the first phase of parliamentary elections last week. According to the High Judicial Elections Commission in Cairo, the vote produced only four clear winners out of 56 races for individual lower house seats. Run-off polls will be held for the remaining seats starting Monday.

The popularity of Twitter has soared in the Arab world over the past year, a study published Thursday revealed, reflecting the key role of the social networking site in the “Arab Spring” revolutions.
Online Twitter messages, or tweets, in Arabic rocketed from 99,000 a day in October 2010 to over two million last month, social media monitor Semiocast showed in its study into the most popular languages used on the popular site.

على غير العادة في الزيارات الرسمية التي تنظمها الإدارات الحكومية لاستقبال الوفود من «جهات رسمية»، قرر مجلس الشورى الموافقة على طلب أحد أشهر الناشطين على موقع التواصل الاجتماعي «تويتر» لزيارة المجلس برفقة 25 مغرداً ومغردة سعوديين من الموقع ذاته.  وأعطى الشورى الموافقة على الزيارة بعد أن رفع المدون فؤاد الفرحان طلب زيارة للمجلس قبل شهرين، وجاءته الموافقة أول من أمس، طبقاً له، موضحاً أن «تويتر يوماً بعد يوم في طريقه ليصبح منصة حوار سعودية مثل بقية دول العالم، إذ يناقش فيه السعوديون قضايا الشأن العام والأمور التي تهمهم بشكل صريح وشفاف»، مبيناً أن «عديداً من الجهات الحكومية تعرضت للنقد والمتابعة من المدونين والمغردين في تويتر».
