YouTube Officially Launches in Singapore
The report cites YouTube Asia-Pacific director of product management Adam Smith, who points out that the new site should go a long way towards building Singapore’s conversation with the rest of the world through video:Through localizing YouTube in Singapore, the site will deliver more of the content Singaporeans want to see, and we hope the world will continue to discover the amazing culture and talent that exists in Singapore today.Check out YouTube Singapore’s ‘Welcome to Youtube’ video below, featuring a number of celebrities and YouTubers expressing their welcome messages.
In addition to its Philippines site which launched last week, YouTube has been pretty active in Asia over the past few months. Its YouTube BoxOffice endeavor in India racked up 11.5 million views in its first three months, while in Indonesia the service served local users by live-streaming Ramadan prayers. And back in July, YouTube bumped up its support for Japanese users by rolling out Japanese-language machine transcription, the second language after English to get this beta feature.
