Press Conference announcing the reasons why Prosecutor General must leave
Cairo, August 21st 2011
Impunity, was a consistent approach for the rule of deposed dictator Hosni Mubarak, impunity was not only the result of oppressive practices of the Police , but was part of the results of the protection the officers of this device had , and the inability or failure of the prosecution service in the prosecution for their crimes .
Impunity is still going on after the revolution, not necessarily to protect the officers and the police this time, but has expanded to include businessmen and companies that participated in the suppression, and the murder of Egyptians , even if indirectly.
Demonstrations that came out for the first time in Egypt, demanding the departure of the Prosecutor General, did not come out as a result of induction of “thugs”! It came out as a narrow expression of the anger of tthe Egyptian citizens, the continuity of the same form of the justice that existed before the revolution.
Revolution has not yet reached the Office of the Prosecutor General, we believe like millions of Egyptians that Mubarak was referred to trial due to the popular pressure and the legitimacy of their demands.
The revolution that toppled the former president and tried him, the revolution that changed the Egyptian constitution as a prelude to a new constitution, the revolution that has forced the part of the cronies of the Interior “and not all of them” behind bars! This revolution is capable of supporting the Egyptian judges in their demands for the independence of the judiciary and the appointment of a new Prosecutor General. The judiciary career is broad and large, and can definitly guarantee a place for the Counselor Abdel Meguid Mahmoud and deputy Counselor Adel Al-Said, other positions far from the prosecutor general’s office.
