Insights MENA Website Launch
Google is announced a new, publicly available research tool that offers statistics and insight into the MENA region’s internet usage patterns for the first time ever. By visiting www.InsightsMENA.com, anyone can understand the online behavior of urban consumers in five key MENA markets: Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, and get more information about their internet and mobile usage rates, as well as online interests and attitudes. This information can then be filtered by gender, age, and country to allow for better targeted results.
As internet penetration increases in MENA, businesses are increasingly looking for data that will help them understand consumers’ online interests and behaviours. Yet, due to the limited amount of MENA-specific research focused on internet usage, reliable data is hard to come by. The information and statistics provided by InsightsMENA.com will be very valuable to small and medium-sized businesses who want an easy way to track potential customers’ internet usage habits, or to anyone interested in how prevalent the internet is in daily life and what people generally use it for.
Neilson, a renowned global research agency, spent one year gathering the information by conducting 1,500 face-to-face interviews in each of the five target countries (7,500 total) between September and November 2010. Once all the data was compiled, rather than presenting it in a static way, Google enlisted Egyptian start-up company Bright Creation to actually create the site, taking advantage of the latest HTML5 capabilities to help users visualise and interact with the data by selecting and exploring the countries, sectors, and consumers groups that are most relevant for them.
The website operates as a collaborative effort between Google, the Information Technology Association of Jordan and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the UAE. Given the positive response to the data already available, Google are currently in discussions with Nielsen about re-running InsightsMENA for 2011. The exact list of countries has not yet been decided, but will be made available in the near future
