TE Data, Telecom Egypt's internet service provider subsidiary, has lost potential revenues of up to EGP 1.25 billion (USD 208 million) this year due to illegal broadband connections, Managing Director Tamer Gad Allah told Zawya.

Illegal connections allow for a single subscriber to redistribute the service to others. According to Gad Allah, about 10,000 connections, or about 1% of the total, are Illegal. TE Data has 1.7 million internet subscribers, of which 1.150 million subscribe to its high-speed ADSL service . The provider has a 65% share of Egypt's internet service market, he said.
The company expects revenues to grow in 2012 as demand for internet connectivity increases, especially in the wake of the Egyptian revolution. TE Data is considering a merger with parent company Telecom Egypt in order to provide more integrated services for voice and data.
TE Data posted revenues of EGP 760 million in the first three quarters of 2011, representing 10% of Telecom Egypt's revenues
