Egypt: Last Place on Tourism List

A report on the international travel industry has ranked Egypt the least safe and secure of 140 tourist destinations, putting it behind Pakistan, Yemen and Chad, evidence of the toll that two years of near-constant unrest has taken on the country’s once-lucrative tourist industry.

Celebrations around the world: 
World Tourism Day (27 September) is the most widely celebrated global day for tourism. World Tourism Day has been held since 1980 and has been a United Nations “official day” since UNWTO became a UN specialized agency in 2003.
In 2011, World Tourism Day is being celebrated around the theme, Tourism – Linking Cultures, and will highlight tourism’s role in bringing the cultures of the world together and promoting global understanding through travel. The official World Tourism Day celebrations will take place in Aswan, Egypt, and will include a High Level Think Tank on the 2011 theme.

أكد وزير السياحة منير فخرى عبد النور إن السياحة أصبحت واحدة من أهم مكونات الاقتصاد القومى ولها دور مميز فى كافة الاصعدة الاجتماعية  والثقافية والاقتصادية وهى تساهم بقوة فى خلق فرص العمل وتنمية المجتمع وزيادة الدخل والقضاء على البطالة بالاضافة إلى حماية التقاليد والحفاظ على البيئة . وقال فى كلمته فى افتتاح إحتفال منظمة السياحة العالمية بيوم السياحة العالمى اليوم الثلاثاء فى أسوان إن شعار الاحتفال العام الحالى " السياحة .. تربط  الثقافات "يعكس أهمية صناعة السياحة والتى أصبحت واحدة من أهم السبل لتقارب الثقافات وتدعيم وتقوية التفاهم المتبادل والتسامح والاحترام والسلام العالمى .
