Vodafone to acquire Wind Hellas - report
Tuesday 30 August 2011 | 08:39 CET
Vodafone Hellas confirmed it's in talks with the shareholder of Wind Hellas, Largo Ltd, on a possible "business combination" between the two operators. However, the company denied reports it plans to acquire Wind Hellas for cash. According to Capital.gr and other Greek news agencies, a merger could happen before the end of the year, with Vodafone buying the smaller operator for around EUR 1 billion. With the current mobile penetration figures the new company would control 53 percent of the market and Cosmote 47 percent. Any deal would have direct implications for the state's recent auction for the renewal of spectrum licences. If the companies reach an agreement, the deal will be subject to approval by the European Commission.
