كان من المقرر بوساطة سعودية ان يوجه الرئيس حسني مبارك رسالة اعتذار للشعب المصري ويعيد اليهم مبلغ 400 مليون دولار موجودة في المصارف المصرية الا ان تصريح للاستاذ محمد حسنين هيكل اعلن فيه ان ثروة مبارك تتروح بين 9 و11 مليار دولار في مصارف سويسرا، هذا ما اوقف المسعى السعودي بعد ان قام القضاء المصري باستدعاء هيكل وسؤاله عن ثروة مبارك خصوصا وانه اعلن ان المبالغ موثقة لديه، وقد غضبت السعودية من هيكل على هذا التصريح واعتبرت ان قطر هي وراء تسريب هذا الخبر عبر هيكل الذي يعمل في تلفزيون الجزيرة القطري.
